PRESENTATION

• What’s the final objective of the research provided by ERCES?

Though our core - proposal might be justified with regards to the contemporary social sciences’ literature, it is in contradiction, first, with the mainstream of contemporary criminology which agrees with the opinion that increase of the crime volume, observed all over the world, is an indicator of the crisis of our societies, more particularly the crisis of our traditional values systems, and second, with the fact that some specific types of dangerous and violent crime ( terrorism, e; g; attach on the world trade Center; Bio- terrorism. murder of children and very dangerous violent sexual offences ) are still provoking a social reaction that refers to something like a common consciousness and supra - individual morals; Our objective is therefore to test the potential of common consciousness and supra - individual values; We attempt to work out the space of common consciousness and supra- individual values, and its limits.

• How to realise our objective?

Through a comparative analyse of formal and informal social reaction. Ideally this analyse should be able to determine convergence and differences in the hierarchy of those values and morals that are expressed through the formal, i.; e legal social reaction and those which are relevant for the informal social reaction. This should be done first with respect to the historical change of the values to whom refer the informal social reaction ( historical or theoretical part that must take under account variations due to different national legal cultures ), and second by referring to the method of the WVS; application should take under account; first difference of age ( conflict of generation ), difference of sex ( inequality between male and female ), ethnical and cultural differences ( multi -- cultural society and the potential of integration / inclusion), for the emporical concern. In addition to this we must take under account the international studies upon the need of punishment.

• What are the ERCES’s short time objectives?

Develop our exchange and organise meetings . Finalise our project. Call for funds and material support.
