The Place of the Black Sea Region in the Structure of Russia
l Strictly speaking, the Black Sea region of Russia consists only of Krasnodar krai, as it is this area, which covers all the regions of Russia coming out to the Black Sea. Taking into account the closeness of the Black Sea to the Azov Sea, Rostov oblast, which includes all the territory bordering this sea, is often referred to as the Black Sea region conditionally.
l
l Both Krasnodar krai and Rostov oblast are the parts of Russia’s Southern federal district – one of the seven Russian large administrative formations.
